Have questions about menopause? We have answers!
Once a woman reaches middle age, her body will begin to shift into menopause. Most women experience menopause during their late 40s to early fifties; however, you may notice symptoms earlier or later. Of course, you may be experiencing some rather unpleasant symptoms (we’re looking at you, night sweats) or have questions about what you’re going through. Our Mission, KS, gynecologist Dr. Marilyn Richardson is here to address all of your questions and concerns about menopause.
Menopause is completely normal
While you may be experiencing symptoms such as vaginal dryness, night sweats, weight gain, or hot flashes, know that menopause isn’t a disease or disorder. This is a natural stage that all women will go through (the average age for menopause is 51 years old). When you come into our office, our Mission, KS, gynecologist will easily be able to determine if these symptoms are due to menopause or from other conditions (or simply a result of aging), and provide you with helpful insight and approaches for managing these symptoms.
Menopause can affect the health of your bones
Menopause occurs when the body stops producing as much estrogen and progesterone. Unfortunately, the lack of estrogen can cause a decrease in bone density, which can lead to osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is a weakening of the bones that can make you prone to fractures, which can be dangerous as you get older. Of course, Dr. Richardson and her team can provide you with tips on how to keep bones healthy, which may include changing your diet or taking on weight training exercises a couple of times a week. There are also medications that are designed to slow the loss of bone density.
Not all women will need hormone replacement therapy
Some women go through menopause and only experience a couple of hot flashes; however, some women deal with severe night sweats, hot flashes, and rapid bone loss. In these cases, your gynecologist may recommend bioidentical hormone replacement therapy to help alleviate these symptoms. There are many hormone therapies available to you here in Mission, KS, and our team would be happy to discuss those with you.
We know that menopause is a unique experience for every woman, and here at Hormone Hair & Vein Center in Mission, KS, our gynecologist and her team are here to help make that journey a more positive one. To schedule an appointment, call us at (913) 631-0277.
